Arriving at Punta Cana Airport
Open-air terminals and a short walk. Here is the whole thing in order.

Arrival instructions, step by step
The most pleasant arrival in the Caribbean: open-air terminals with palm-frond roofs and a short walk to the pick-up area.
The e-Ticket and immigration
The Dominican e-Ticket is free and filled online before you fly; have the QR ready on your phone. The tourist card is already included in almost every airline ticket, so nobody at the airport should charge you for it again.
Have your return ticket handy
Since 28 April 2023 the airline is required to check that every foreign passenger holds an onward or return ticket. Without one you can be refused entry, and the check happens at the counter, not on landing.
Flying in from Brazil or Venezuela? Yellow fever
The Dominican Republic requires an international vaccination certificate from anyone arriving from Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo, and from every passenger coming from Venezuela. It has to be at least ten days old. Confirm with your airline before you fly.
Baggage reclaim and customs
Collect your bags and walk through customs. Random checks are quick.
Porters and helpers
Porters at the belt expect a tip and “helpers” who take your trolley expect more. Keep your own trolley until you reach your driver; a dollar or two is plenty if you do want the help.
Out into the open air
There is no timeshare hall here. You walk out of the terminal into the covered pick-up area.
Find the name board
Your driver waits in the pick-up area with an eTransfers name board. Photo and number plate are in MyTrip before you land.
Twenty minutes to Bavaro
Cap Cana is 15 minutes, Bavaro and Punta Cana village 20 to 30, Uvero Alto about an hour on the coastal road.
Meeting point by terminal
Your confirmation names your terminal. Here’s where we stand at each one.

What to watch for at Punta Cana Airport
It has been included in airline tickets for years. If anyone at the airport asks you for $10 for a tourist card, it is not official.
Tipping is normal and expected, but agree it is a tip and not a fee. Two or three dollars covers it.
You can pay in dollars all over the resort zone, but change comes back in pesos at a rate the shop chooses. Carry small bills.
