A single small terminal. From the aircraft door to your vehicle is usually under fifteen minutes.

One terminal for the whole island
Cozumel has a single terminal with eight gates, six international and two domestic. There is no terminal to get wrong.

The airport also serves as Air Force Base No. 4, which is why you will see military aircraft on the apron. It changes nothing for your flight.

What to watch for on Cozumel
One of the calmest arrivals in Mexico. The two things worth knowing are about taxis and about the ferry.
Cozumel has no ride-hailing apps: the taxi union has an exclusive and enforces it. Fares from the airport are fixed but high, and they go up after dark.
To pick up inside the airport, ASUR requires each vehicle’s registration — carrying the federal number plates and the SICT permit — current insurance and several other requirements. Whoever cannot meet them stays outside the perimeter, which is where they approach you.
Most visitors come from Playa del Carmen by ferry, not by plane. We drive you to the Playa pier and pick you up at the Cozumel pier; tell us which one you need.
Driver name, photo and number plate are in MyTrip before you land.
The transfer is prepaid. No driver of ours asks for the fare on arrival.
Do not book a dive for the morning of your flight home. The standard rule is 18 hours between your last dive and take-off, and Cozumel is a diving island.
Tips from our team on the island
What people ask us about getting around Cozumel.
Plane or ferry?
Most travellers fly into Cancun and take the ferry from Playa del Carmen: thirty to forty-five minutes, roughly hourly. Flying direct into CZM saves the ferry but costs more.
Pesos or dollars?
Dollars are accepted everywhere on Cozumel and you lose on every one of them. Pesos from a bank cash machine in town.
Where the diving is
Palancar, Columbia and Santa Rosa are all on the protected southwest side. Boats leave from the hotel piers and from the city centre, not from the airport side.
No golf carts here, that is Isla Mujeres
People mix up the two islands all the time. Cozumel is too big and too busy for a golf cart and nobody hires them out; what you hire here is a car or a scooter. There are car hire desks at the airport and more firms in town.
Is a hire car worth it?
For one day driving the island loop, yes: it is a single good road and the east coast is empty. For the airport run with luggage it is not, and the counter queue eats the first hour of your trip.
Cruise ship days
On days with three or four ships in port San Miguel is packed from 10 to 17 h. The east coast beaches stay empty.

Your return to Cozumel Airport
Short drive, small terminal, but the check-in desks open on a fixed schedule and the queues build up at once.
- Domestic flightsPick-up 2 hours before departure, plus the drive from your hotel.
- International flightsPick-up 2 hours before departure is enough here, plus journey time. CZM is small and security is quick.
- If you have been divingLeave 18 hours between your last dive and take-off. Plan the last day above water.
