Arriving at Miami Airport
Three levels, six concourses, and one rule: ground transport is Level 1.

Arrival instructions, step by step
MIA is big. The one thing to get right is that everything happens on Level 1, and Level 1 is arrivals.
Immigration
US citizens and residents, and Global Entry holders, use the kiosks. Everyone else joins the visitors’ queue, which at MIA is genuinely long when several wide-bodies land together.
The laser visa works for flying, with a passport
Mexico’s border crossing card (DSP-150) is a B-1/B-2 visa, so it works for flying to Miami or Orlando. The one thing to remember is that arriving by air you always present it together with a valid Mexican passport: the card on its own will not get you on the plane.
A connection in the United States counts as entry
There is no airside international transit here: everyone who lands clears immigration, collects their bag and rechecks it. If you are only connecting onward to another country, you still need an ESTA or a visa. Without one you will not be allowed to board at origin.
Baggage reclaim and customs
Collect your bags, clear customs, and if you are connecting you re-check them right there.
Go to Level 1
Every terminal at MIA has three levels and ground transport is on Level 1, the arrivals level. If you came out of Customs at Concourse J, take the lift down.
Find the name board
Your driver meets you on the ground transport level of your terminal, holding an eTransfers board. Photo and number plate are in MyTrip before you land.
Twenty minutes to the city centre
The city centre and Brickell are twenty minutes without traffic, South Beach about thirty, Fort Lauderdale forty-five.

What to watch for at Miami Airport
Nobody licensed touts for fares inside a US airport terminal. Anyone offering you a lift at baggage reclaim is operating illegally.
Departures is Level 2, arrivals and ground transport are Level 1. Most missed pick-ups at MIA are a level problem, not a driver problem.
MIA is one of the worst airports in the country for surge. A prepaid transfer costs what it said in January, whatever is happening outside.
