Why book your Cancun Airport transportation in advance?

Ride-hailing apps cannot pick up at the terminals: the airport is federal property, and only authorized airport taxis and permitted transfer companies can load passengers there.

The ADO bus costs around 100 MXN (about 5 USD), but it only goes to the downtown bus terminal and does not stop at any hotel. For the Hotel Zone, Playa del Carmen or Tulum you still need another ride.

Airport taxis are paid at the counter, about 65 to 120 USD per car to the Hotel Zone.

A private transfer booked ahead starts at US$34 per vehicle for up to 8 passengers, with the price fixed before you fly, no lineup and no shared stops. Booking at least 24 hours ahead saves up to 30%, and you can pay online by card or PayPal at any hour.

Step by step

Arrival instructions, step by step

Written by our own team at Cancun Airport. Read it once on the plane and you will be in the van 20 to 40 minutes after landing.

  1. 1. Immigration

Have your passport ready and know your hotel name. Most nationalities no longer fill the paper FMM form; the officer stamps you in. Lineups are longest between noon and 4 p.m., when the US flights land together.

  2. 2. Baggage claim and customs

Collect your bags and put them through the X-ray belt. Nothing to declare means you keep walking. A random check takes two minutes and is routine.

  3. 3. The timeshare hall

Between customs and the exit you cross a bright hall of counters offering “free transportation”, “tourist information” and a welcome drink. They sell timeshare presentations. Say no thanks and keep walking: your driver is not in this hall and never will be.

  4. 4. Walk out the sliding doors

Go straight through the exit doors of your terminal. Do not stop for anyone inside the building, however official the badge or the uniform looks.

  5. 5. Find the sign

Right outside, behind the barrier, your driver holds an eTransfers sign. The driver photo and the plate are already in MyTrip if you want to check before you walk up.

  6. 6. Two minutes to your vehicle

The driver takes your luggage to the authorized parking a short walk away. Cold water on board, air conditioning on, and your family can follow the ride live.

Your name on the sign

Which terminal will you land in?

Cancun has four terminals. Terminal 1 was closed for years and reopens in mid-2026 with the World Cup expansion, so today you land in 2, 3 or 4. This is the picture as of September 2026.

Safety first

Avoid pirate taxis and fake transport

Cancun Airport is safe. What is not safe is the selling that starts the second you clear customs. This is what to watch for.

“That company doesn’t exist”

You will hear it said about us by name, at the exit doors, and you will hear it often. It is how a sale opens. Your booking is in MyTrip and in your WhatsApp confirmation, and nothing said at the door changes it.

“Your unit is not coming”

Nobody outside our channels knows that. We do. A real delay reaches you through IAN on WhatsApp, never through a stranger in the hall.

“We work with eTransfers — they did not assign your unit, take a taxi”

The convincing one, because it uses our name and then hands you a solution. We never pass your pickup to someone who approaches you, and we never tell you to take a taxi. The taxi is the point of the conversation.

Nobody inside the terminal is your driver

Authorized drivers cannot solicit inside the building. Ours waits outside, behind the barrier, with the eTransfers sign. Keep walking to the meeting point.

The pirates are outside because they cannot get in

To pick up inside the airport, ASUR requires each vehicle’s registration — carrying the federal plates and the SICT permit — current insurance and several other requirements. Whoever approaches you in the hall has no vehicle inside. Their whole job is to talk you into walking out to one.

Verify photo and plate

Your driver name, photo and plate are in MyTrip before you land. If the person or the vehicle does not match, do not get in. Message IAN and we sort it out in minutes.

Never pay twice

Your transfer is prepaid, tolls included. A driver asking again for the fare, tolls, parking or a “terminal fee” is not ours. Tips are welcome and never required.

eTransfers team at Cancun AirportAt Cancun Airport since 2010 Verified by our team at CUN
  • Pesos or dollars?

Both work in tourist areas, but you pay 10 to 15% more in dollars because the change comes back at the shop’s rate. Pay by card where you can and carry some pesos for tips and small shops.

  • How much to tip

Drivers: 50 to 100 pesos or about US$5 for a standard transfer, more for a group with a lot of luggage. Restaurants: 10 to 15%. Tipping in pesos saves the staff a bad exchange.

  • SIM cards and wifi

Airport kiosks charge double. Buy a Telcel SIM at any OXXO in town, or activate an eSIM before you fly. Your voucher works offline in MyTrip in the meantime.

  • Best hours to land

Immigration peaks from noon to 4 p.m., when the US flights arrive together. Morning and late evening flights get you out in about 20 minutes.

  • Sargassum season

Seaweed reaches the east-facing beaches from May to September. Playa Mujeres, the north beach of Isla Mujeres and the west coast of Cozumel stay cleaner.

  • Weather

Warm all year. Rain and hurricane season runs June to November; storms are short and rare. December to April is peak season, so book a few days ahead.

  • Stop at the supermarket

Ask for a 20 minute stop at Chedraui or Walmart on the way. Water, snacks and sunscreen cost half of hotel prices. With Premium, one short stop is included; on Economy, request it when you book and it may cost extra.

Cancun Airport transportation questions

How much is transportation from Cancun Airport?
A private transfer from Cancun Airport to the Hotel Zone starts at US$34 per vehicle, one way, for up to 8 passengers with taxes, tolls and luggage included. Playa del Carmen, Tulum and the rest of the Riviera Maya are priced by area; the price list above has every one, and on most routes the round trip costs less than two one-ways.
Is there a shuttle from Cancun Airport to my hotel?
Yes. Every eTransfers ride is a private shuttle: the van goes straight from your terminal to your hotel, with no stops at other hotels. Shared shuttles are cheaper per seat for one traveller, but for two or more a private van usually costs the same or less, and you do not wait for other passengers.
Can I take a ride app or a taxi from Cancun Airport?
Ride-hailing apps cannot pick up at the terminals: the airport is federal property and only authorized airport taxis and permitted transfer companies can load passengers there. Airport taxis charge about 65 to 120 USD per car to the Hotel Zone, paid at the counter; a pre-booked transfer starts at US$34 and the price is fixed before you fly.
Where exactly does my driver wait?
Right outside the arrivals exit doors of your terminal, behind the barrier, holding an eTransfers sign. Your voucher names the exit for your terminal, and the driver appears in MyTrip with photo and plate.
My flight is delayed or lands early. What happens?
Nothing on your side. We track your flight number and move the pickup ourselves, at no charge. The driver is there when you walk out.
Is the price per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. A passenger van carries up to 8 passengers and their luggage for the same price, taxes and tolls included.
Which terminal do I arrive at?
It depends on your airline: Terminal 2 for Volaris, VivaAerobus and Aeroméxico domestic; Terminal 3 for American, Delta, United and Air Canada; Terminal 4 for JetBlue, Southwest, WestJet and most European carriers. The terminal list above is the full picture, and your voucher names yours.
Do you provide child seats?
Yes, free. Choose infant seats or boosters at checkout and they are installed before you land.
What if I cannot find my driver?
Message IAN on WhatsApp or call, 24/7. Never accept a ride from anyone else; we locate your driver in minutes.
How long does it take to get out of the airport?
Immigration, luggage and customs take 20 to 40 minutes on a normal day, up to an hour at peak. Your driver waits with no extra charge.
Can I cancel or change my booking?
With the Premium fare, free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup and free changes of time, flight or passengers up to 12 hours before, from MyTrip. The Economy fare has no free cancellation, but it includes one change if you let us know at least 24 hours ahead.
