What to expect

Always wanted to surf but never got around to it? At the Aquaworld FlowRider in Cancun's Hotel Zone, the wave comes to you: a generator pushes a sheet of water up an inclined surface and you ride on top of it, with no paddling out or waiting for the right set.

The riding surface is padded and soft, a bit like a trampoline, so wiping out is part of the fun. You start on a bodyboard, lying down and then kneeling, and once you feel steady you move up to the flowboard to try it standing, with an instructor holding a rope to help you balance on your first runs.

Your pass lasts one hour and includes a guide, instruction, boards and showers. Between turns you catch your breath, watch others give it a go and head back in feeling more confident. Aquaworld's was the first FlowRider in Cancun opened to the general public, and in 2017 it hosted a flowboarding championship with riders from several countries, so experienced surfers will find a challenge too.

Bodyboarders need to be at least 1.00 m (3 ft 3 in) tall and flowboarders at least 1.20 m (3 ft 11 in), with a 115 kg (253 lb) weight limit. Jewelry and accessories stay off the wave, and your swimsuit can't have zippers or hard parts.

It's a great pick for families with kids, groups of friends and anyone who wants something different between beach days. Transportation, food and photos aren't included. Book your hour on the wave with us.
