Arrival instructions

Arriving at Miami Airport

Three levels, six concourses, and one rule: ground transportation is Level 1.

Miami International Airport

Arrival instructions, step by step

MIA is big. The one thing to get right is that everything happens on Level 1, and Level 1 is arrivals.

  1. Immigration

US citizens and residents, and Global Entry holders, use the kiosks. Everyone else joins the visitors lineup, which at MIA is genuinely long when several wide-bodies land together.

  2. The laser visa works for flying, with a passport

Mexico’s border crossing card (DSP-150) is a B-1/B-2 visa, so it works for flying to Miami or Orlando. The one thing to remember is that arriving by air you always present it together with a valid Mexican passport: the card on its own will not get you on the plane.

  3. A connection in the United States counts as entry

There is no sterile international transit here: everyone who lands clears immigration, collects their bag and rechecks it. If you are only connecting onward to another country, you still need an ESTA or a visa. Without one you will not be allowed to board at origin.

  4. Baggage claim and customs

Collect your bags, clear customs, and if you are connecting you re-check them right there.

  5. Go to Level 1

Every terminal at MIA has three levels and ground transportation is on Level 1, the arrivals level. If you came out of Customs at Concourse J, take the elevator down.

  6. Find the sign

Your driver meets you on the ground transportation level of your terminal, holding an eTransfers sign. Photo and plate are in MyTrip before you land.

  7. Twenty minutes to downtown

Downtown and Brickell are twenty minutes without traffic, South Beach about thirty, Fort Lauderdale forty-five.

What to watch for at Miami Airport

Unlicensed drivers inside the terminal

Nobody licensed solicits rides inside a US airport terminal. Anyone offering you a ride at baggage claim is operating illegally.

Wrong level, wrong meeting

Departures is Level 2, arrivals and ground transportation are Level 1. Most missed pickups at MIA are a level problem, not a driver problem.

Surge pricing on the apps

MIA is one of the worst airports in the country for surge. A prepaid transfer costs what it said in January, whatever is happening outside.

Verify photo and plate

Driver name, photo and plate are in MyTrip before you land.

  • We track your flight numberFrom the moment you book. If the schedule moves, we move the pickup before you land.
  • The driver waits, at no chargeSixty minutes after landing on international flights, thirty on domestic. The immigration lineup never counts against you.
  • If you miss the flight entirelyMessage us with the new flight number. With Premium, changing the date or the time is free up to 12 hours before the original pickup; with Economy it is your one included change, with 24 hours’ notice. Outside those windows, we move it subject to availability.

Miami Airport transfer questions

Where exactly do we meet?
On Level 1, the ground transportation level of your concourse. Every terminal at MIA has three levels and Level 1 is arrivals.
I am arriving at Concourse J. Is that different?
Slightly. Customs at the South Terminal exits on an upper level; take the elevator down to Level 1 and you are in the right place.
Do you go to PortMiami and Port Everglades?
Yes, both. PortMiami is about twenty minutes and Port Everglades about forty, at a fixed price with tolls included.
Are tolls included?
Yes. South Florida runs all-electronic tolling and they are already in your price.
How far is Fort Lauderdale?
About forty-five minutes without traffic. Longer at rush hour, which in South Florida is most of the afternoon.
Is the price the same at night?
Yes. It is the price you booked, with no surge, no night surcharge and no airport fee on top.
