“I was not disappointed. The town has a unique blend of ancient history and modern culture that is truly enchanting. The beaches were stunning, but I was also impressed by the food and drink scene in Tulum; it was an unforgettable experience that I will treasure forever.”

What you’ll do
What to expect
Picture yourself floating above a crowd of human figures gazing up at the surface, crusted with coral and circled by fish. That's what's waiting for you at Manchones, the largest gallery of the Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA), in the stretch of sea between Cancun and Isla Mujeres.
The sculptures were sunk with a clear purpose: to give visitors an alternative to the natural reefs, which need a break, and to give coral a fresh base to grow on. Over the years the stone has filled up with algae and coral, and each piece has turned into a shelter for marine life.
Once you reach the snorkel spot, the guide hands out the gear and a briefing, and you slip into the water to look for works like The Silent Evolution, the Anthropocene VW Beetle or The Dream Collector. How many you'll spot depends on sea conditions and visibility that day. The second stop is Manchones reef, where schools of fish often swim by and, if you're lucky, a turtle or a ray.
You'll leave from Marina Aquaworld in Cancun's Hotel Zone. The boat ride, guide, snorkel gear, a free snorkel tube to keep, water and soft drinks are included, along with lockers and showers. Transportation isn't included, and the reef conservation fee is paid at check-in.
It's open to ages 8 to 60 who know how to swim. Book your spot and see a museum you can only visit with a mask and fins.
