What to expect
On this tour you're the captain: each pair drives their own speedboat, following the guide through the mangrove channels of Nichupte Lagoon, the large body of water that stretches behind Cancun's Hotel Zone.
Mangroves are a nursery for fish and a refuge for many birds. As you weave through tunnels of greenery, keep your eyes open: herons and other birds are often perched on the roots or gliding over the water.
Then the lagoon opens up to the sea and you reach Punta Nizuc, at the southern tip of the Hotel Zone. There you gear up and snorkel over the reef, part of the Mesoamerican Reef System, among corals and colorful fish. When you're done, you take the wheel again for the ride back to the marina.
You'll leave from Aquaworld in the Hotel Zone. The guide and briefing, a two-person speedboat, snorkel gear, a free snorkel tube to keep, bottled water, lockers and showers are included. Transportation isn't included, and the reef conservation fee is paid at check-in.
You must be 18 or older to drive; passengers aged 5 to 65 who know how to swim can ride along. If you want speed, nature and the sea in a single outing, reserve your boat.

- Welcome and briefing from the guide with your group
