“Excellent Taxi service at Punta Cana Airport! The driver, Juan, was a true professional, met us and helped us with our bags. The ride was comfortable and safe, and Juan even shared great ideas about visiting local attractions. Very nice. I highly recommend him.”

What you’ll do
What to expect
Holbox is a paradise in the north of Quintana Roo, inside the Yum Balam Flora and Fauna Protection Area. It is known for its beautiful white-sand beaches and the calm of an island where cars are practically absent.
Getting there means a road trip from Cancun to the port of Chiquilá, about 2 hours away, followed by a ferry crossing of about 25 minutes. On Holbox the streets are sand, and you get around on foot, by bike or by golf cart, which also works as a taxi.
Highlights include Punta Mosquito, an untouched beach on the north side of the island where, with luck, you can spot flamingos and pelicans, and Playa Holbox, in the center, with restaurants and services. Don't miss a souvenir photo at the Holbox letters.
After a day at the beach, try the local seafood restaurants; many overlook the sea and others are in the village center. If you love pizza, this is where you can find lobster pizza!
If you like fishing, Cabo Catoche is the place: head out by boat and fish at your own pace. And if you travel between May and September, it's whale shark season, an activity booked separately.
There is no doubt Holbox is one of the most beautiful islands in Mexico. Take lots of pictures of its street art and don't miss a thing the island has to offer.
