What to expect
If you're after a rush, this Grupo Xcaret experience puts you behind the handlebars of an ATV on dirt trails deep in the Maya jungle. You ride in a convoy behind a guide on one-way paths, so all you have to think about is driving and taking in the scenery.
Book a single ATV and drive solo, or a double to share with your partner, a friend or your kids; when two adults share, they swap drivers at the rest stops along the trail. Before you set off you get a helmet, goggles and a life vest, and the crew briefs you on how the ride works.
The Cancun route offers a combo that ends on a Jet Boat, a race-engine boat that speeds through narrow channels and pulls 360-degree spins. The Playa del Carmen route finishes on a calmer note with a Xapuzón, a dip in crystal-clear water to wash off the dust and heat.
Afterwards there's a box lunch waiting for you, with a turkey baguette or veggie sandwich, fruit, dessert and flavored water, plus showers, changing rooms and lockers so you can freshen up before the rest of your day.
