What it is

What is the Cozumel Clear Boat?

It is a boat with a fully see-through hull: from your seat you watch the sea floor, fish and reef without getting wet. Halfway through there is a snorkel stop with gear included, and anyone who would rather not swim stays on board.

Several Cozumel operators run it in a similar format: about 90 minutes, small groups (one caps it at 11 people per boat), drinks on board, and stops at reefs and a shipwreck. The usual departures are 10:00 a.m., noon, 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Many people search for it as "clear boat Cancun," but the best-known tour is in Cozumel. Cancun does have glass-bottom boat rides and transparent boats leaving from Cancun and Isla Mujeres.

Cozumel's reefs are a national park (Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park), with a CONANP fee and strict rules: licensed boats only, no touching the reef and no sunscreen.
