What to expect

The Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA) has three galleries in the waters off Cancun: Punta Nizuc, Punta Sam and Manchones. This tour takes you to Manchones, between Cancun and Isla Mujeres, the largest one: it holds 455 of the sculptures, according to the operator.

They are life-size figures that over the years have been covered by coral and algae and are now home to fish and other species. The museum was created to give the natural reefs, which were receiving too many visitors, a rest, and to build an artificial reef where coral can grow.

Among the pieces you can see are The Cross of the Bay, Man on Fire, The Dream Collector, Bacab, Anthropocene (the VW), Silent Evolution and The Promise. Which ones you get to see depends on the weather and the visibility that day. After the museum there is a second snorkel stop at Manchones reef.

Departs from Aquaworld Marina in the Hotel Zone; transportation is not included. For ages 8 to 60 who know how to swim. The reef preservation fee is paid separately at check-in.
