Choose airport transport by the hotel’s exact address
There is no best way to get from Cancun Airport to your hotel, because “your hotel” is anywhere in a two-hour spread from Costa Mujeres to Tulum. The right ride is the one that finishes the journey for your group, with your bags, at the hour you actually land. Everything else is somebody selling you their vehicle.
Pin the destination before you compare anything
“A hotel in Cancun” is not a destination. Downtown, the Hotel Zone, Playa Mujeres, Costa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum sit on different roads and, in some cases, need a different kind of vehicle. We have had bookings for the wrong Bahia Principe, on the wrong side of the state, because somebody wrote the brand and not the property.
The full property name
Several resorts here share a brand or run near-identical names forty minutes apart.
Address or map pin
Municipality, road and kilometer marker if the property is not on a town grid — and most of the good ones are not.
Terminal and flight
Three terminals. The meeting instruction has to match the flight that is actually bringing you.
Everyone and everything
Adults, children, car seats, mobility equipment, suitcases, strollers, golf bags. Count before booking, not at the curb.
What is actually available
ADO bus
ASUR lists it at Terminals 2, 3 and 4, to the city. Genuinely good value if its station and timetable happen to suit you, and if you have already worked out the last mile.
Authorised airport taxi
ASUR lists taxis at Terminals 2 and 3. Buy inside, at the authorised point, and settle destination, vehicle and total before the car moves.
Rental car
For an itinerary that drives most days. Add the contract, the deposit, the fuel policy, tolls, parking and the return deadline before you call it cheap.
Private transfer
A car tied to your booking, going to your address. Worth it when you want one meeting plan, space reserved in advance and nothing to change halfway.
Hotel-arranged ride
Some properties sell it or include it. Ask three questions: who operates it, is it private or shared, and what happens when the flight is late.
Which one fits which trip
One person, light bag
A bus can be the right answer. Price the last mile first, because that is where it usually stops being the right answer.
Family or group
Compare the total for everyone. A low per-person number stops being low the moment it needs two vehicles or a second leg.
Late landing
Check what actually runs on your date at your hour. The daytime schedule does not continue after the last arrival bank, and a closed ticket counter at midnight is a long night.
Resort out on its own
Fewer changes is worth real money here. The booking has to name the exact entrance, not the region.
Driving the whole trip
A rental makes sense when the driver is comfortable on Highway 307 and the hotel has confirmed parking. Both of those, not one.
What a private booking has to settle before you pay

Flight tracking
Operating airline and flight number, so a delay moves the pickup instead of losing it.
The way back
For a round trip, check hotel, date, pickup time and departure before you pay, not the night before you fly.

Do not improvise the meeting point
Walk from inside the terminal to the point your confirmation names, and nowhere else. If somebody offers to replace your reservation, move the meeting point or take a second payment, the answer is no — check with the company you booked, on the number you booked with.
And if a bag is missing, tell the provider before you settle in at baggage claim. From outside, a late passenger and a passenger who never boarded look exactly the same.
